About Steve Follman
As long as I can remember art has been a major part of my life. Art frees the mind and soul, I get great joy in seeing how my work touches and can inspire others. At a young age I can vaguely remember comparing my drawings with other kids and realizing that mine were different. My parents encouraged me to seek out various styles and types of art. When I was 13, I was the only kid in a life drawing class at night. I learned how fabric drapes on the human body, then we moved to drawing nude models. At 17, I attended Rhode Island School of Designs summer session, this experience opened my eyes to a whole new world of mediums and styles. I tried everything from printmaking to painting. I attended Kutztown University where I received my BFA and mainly concentrated on traditional illustration (late 1980s, no photoshop or illustrator).
I am a designer and illustrator but my true passion is painting. As I get older, I have realized how much art has meant to me and has given me so many interesting opportunities. I have done a variety of work ranging from live painting at corporate events, murals, and commission work.
The subjects I choose to paint are frequently inspired by songs, emotions, places visited and nature. My paintings of Music Icons, is a collection of art done mostly with a pallet knife and acrylic, I enjoy that it allows me to control how much/little depth and texture I can create. All of these paintings have some sort of emotional meaning or connection to me as I navigate my way through this life.
